Meredith Essex, our arts education consultant, Jesse J. Watson, Margie McDonald, Wanda LeClerc, teaching artists, and the fourth and fifth grade classroom teachers of Mt. View Elementary School participated in a workshop focusing on the state mandated Classroom Based Performance Assessments in the Arts.
Meredith introduced strategies for supporting administration of CBPAs and led the group in taking the Visual Art CBPA for Washington State fifth graders: One of a Kind Shoe. The workshop was a great success!
Our classroom teachers have developed confidence, skills, and knowledge in integrating visual arts and drama into their teaching throughout the year. Support from the Washington State Arts Commission and the Port Townsend School District allows teaching artists to collaborate with staff and has led to professional growth for both classroom teachers and teaching artists over the past nine years. Working together, teachers and artists have complemented each other's teaching and our students benefit from the rewards of these special relationships.
